Subnautica Platypus

The Platypus Submarine Project
The Platypus is a custom-designed submarine currently in development for integration into both Subnautica and Subnautica: Below Zero. The model was created using Autodesk Maya and textured in Substance Painter, with a focus on delivering high-quality, game-ready assets.

Designed to fill a functional gap between the Seamoth and the Cyclops, the Platypus serves as a mid-sized, intermediate submersible—a mobile home for players exploring the depths. In Below Zero, it is intended to adopt a role more akin to the Cyclops, offering players a large, walkable submarine experience that many felt was missing from the sequel. While the SeaTruck is an excellent vehicle in its own right, the Platypus aims to provide the immersive sense of scale and utility that fans of the original Cyclops have been missing.

The next stage of development involves implementing the vehicle within the Subnautica engine using the Subnautica modding framework. This will include learning the vehicle systems and integration pipeline to ensure full functionality in both titles.

The sub was 3d modelling by myself and for the most part all of the textures were created by me aswell, however to make the submarine feel more cohesive and withing the subnautica worl I too kthe time to grab textures from the game and kit bash those together for the interior and I grabbed logos and decals to decorate the exterior.
